Writing Words in Service to the River AprilApr 18 2026 03:00pm - 05:00pm1553 Stagecoach Trail S., Afton, MN

This event is free. Registration is requested.

This year's NEA Big Read in the St. Croix Valley will center Diane Wilson’s novel The Seed Keeper—a river story. The author’s connection to, and expressions of, a river are profound. The natural spaces of the St. Croix Valley are compelling influences on local creatives including on the author herself. Join this interactive writing workshop and dedicate time to crafting words guided by poets from the Arrow Broken Poetry Collective. During this afternoon you will meet others who care about the Valley. The Arrow Broken Writing Workshops will also be held on 4/11 in Stillwater and Marine on St. Croix. Come to one or more.

Arrow Broken Poetry Collective was founded in January 2025 by poet, author, and Minnesota State Arts Board Creative Individuals grant recipient Rosetta (Rosie) Peters (of Crow Creek and Yankton Dakota descent); 40-year arts veteran and former executive director of White Bear Center for the Arts, Suzi Hudson; and creative writer Kate Seitz. Based in Marine on St. Croix, Arrow Broken’s mission is to lead Poetry Cohorts, Contemplative Writing Groups, Monthly Artist Events / Open Mics, and Outreach and Education in the St. Croix Valley.

NEA Big Read in the St. Croix Valley is a program of ArtReach St. Croix, in partnerships with Franconia Sculpture Park, area libraries and other program partners. NEA Big Read is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest with additional support from the Human Family Unity Foundation.
